Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Division for University Advancement is responsible for thefollowing primary goals:

  1. Coordinate a campus-wide, comprehensive effort to raisephilanthropic funds that support the strategic plan and mission ofthe university.
  2. Manage an inclusive alumni engagement program designed to serveand engage over 100,000 alumni as ambassadors, advocates anddonors.
  3. Strengthen and expand UNCW’s donor pipeline through effectivediscovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardshipstrategies.
  4. Ensure that external boards ( UNCW Foundation Board, Board ofVisitors, Student Aid Association Board, Alumni Association Boardof Directors and the Friends of UNCW ) are effective in theirmission of supporting UNCW .

The division’s fundraising efforts are enhanced by effectivepartnerships with the campus community as well as externalconstituents including alumni, parents, corporations, foundations,volunteers and friends. Development areas include annual giving,leadership annual giving, major gifts, principal gifts, corporateand foundation engagement and planned giving, as well as alumniengagement. Prospect development, events and board management,stewardship, communications and advancement services are supportservices for the fundraising activities of the division.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position

This is an exciting opportunity to join a nationally recognizeddevelopment team that values innovation, collaboration, andaccountability and is dedicated to the university’s &division’s mission.

Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement Programming andworking in collaboration with other University Advancement teammembers and students, the Alumni Engagement Coordinator plays apivotal role in engaging and cultivating a strong relationship withcurrent students and alumni of the University North CarolinaWilmington.

This position will assist with developing, implementing, andcoordinating programs and initiatives tailored to generationalalumni segments, especially recent graduates, to foster a sense ofcommunity, philanthropy, and lifelong connection to the university.This role is also responsible for overseeing the Student Ambassadorprogram and supporting the engagement strategy for current UNCWilmington students.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area ofassignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.All degrees must be received from appropriately accreditedinstitutions.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

  • Knowledge of alumni engagement best practices
  • Knowledge of UNCW practices and procedures regarding businesstransactions and the ability to implement them appropriately
  • Experience/proficiency using software programs includingMicrosoft Office Suite, Banner Finance, Chrome River, Raiser’sEdge, and other development-related software
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute events andprograms
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizationalskills
  • Experience working with young adults or recent graduates
